Greetings music fans.

Isn’t the title of this post also the title of a Wilson Phillips song, you ask? Guilty. Truth be told, your Uncle Jon did a six week stint as their tour manager back in ‘92. I remember ’cause that was one of best summers of my life. Don’t get me wrong; it wasn’t ’cause of Wilson Phillips. The tour itself was a fucking bore. And Carnie would clean out the catering of all the mini-pizzas, ding-dongs and Coors Light before I could ever get any. But I did end up hooking up with Michelle Phillips. Seriously. I met her back stage at a gig when she was there to check out her daughter. And I will tell you this: even a slightly over-the-hill Michelle Phillips is still a sweeter piece of ass half the talent out there. And that’s what made it such a great summer. Plus she taught me to longboard. (Again, also a euphemism).

So yeah, the day before I go on a surfing holiday I always start the morning off singing that Wilson Phillips song. And then later I try to start a fight at the pub during lunch in order to make up for my earlier gayness.

It’s time for more fireworks. Your Uncle Jon is going to sit this one out though. Once a year is enough for me. Besides, it’s not like I’ll be missing much. This shit is a couple thousand years old. Not a whole lot of new innovation there. It goes up in the air and explodes. Sometimes there’s more, sometimes there’s less. Oh yeah, and there’s different colors. (Should I have written *SPOILER ALERT* before this post?)

The upcoming long weekend in August always feels like the pinnacle of summer to me. And in honor of said pinnacle I am going to spin The Great Outdoors’ epic ep Summer over the four remaining days. Then your Uncle Jon is off to the coast to do a little longboarding. (Yes, that is also a euphemism.)

Greetings music fans.

Speaking of multiple releases, Pete Rose is dating my old girlfriend, Kiana Kim. No surprise. I also beat him to 3000 hits, but that had nothing to do with baseball.

Yeah, so, multiple releases. You all know that the new albums from both Kingsway and The Great Outdoors are due out in early August, but DDG will also be releasing two live performances from the recent Dan Brodie art opening. Looks like it’s gonna be a couple of EPs available for free download. Probably next week sometime. I will keep you posted. As soon as my geeks are done, I’ll let you know.

Greetings music fans.

It’s that time again. Time to get beat up for no reason. Time to get pickpocketed. Time to get a questionable parking ticket. Time to wait in line for the Skytrain. Time to have your $18 bottle of pinot confiscated when getting off the train by some pimply faced cop who was born the same year you turned 40. And time to listen to the same old classsical music standards simulcast city-wide whilst a million dollars-plus in fireworks fills the night sky, giving the homeless a little more light to help them see as they sift through back alley dumpsters in search of dinner.

It’s time again for the fireworks.

But if you are like your Uncle Jon, your fireworks viewing is a little more styling than all that. You get yourself a hot band from your label, a few friends, an open bar and some Brazilian models, and bring ‘em all to your big-ass boat. Then you sail around the harbour and watch the fireworks – free of punks, thieves, metermaids, public transit, and flatfoots. And you have your own live soundtrack to listen to. Not the same half dozen classical classics (over-)played year after year after year.

I got a little room left. Let me know. (Note: this invitation not open to hooligans, pickpockets, metermaids, or the man.)

Greetings music fans.

Your Uncle Jon just inked a sweet ass deal for the DDG Records crew with one of the biggest online distributors going. Seems like some of those cats down south actually do have an ear for something other than last call. This could be a big step for us all. Maybe I’ll finally have enough extra scratch to get the jacuzzi fixed. Dare to dream.
