THE GREAT OUTDOORS
Jamaican Prison Song
Greetings music fans.
Can’t write much today. Gots to get out the fields and start picking my berries. It’s that time of year again; time for your Uncle Jon to whip up a batch of his funky preserves. You think the name Pearl Jam is derived from the story Eddie Vedder told about his half-Navajo grandma named Pearl who used to put peyote in her jelly? Bologna. They got that story from me while I was stage manager for Alice In Chains back in the the day. The boys in Pearl Jam were the openers, and still calling themselves Mookie Blaylock back them. I told them they needed a real name. I suggested Perry Jam. Perry was the name of my deranged second-cousin that taught me how to make hallucinogenic jelly back on his farm outside of Freeport, Illinois. They switched the name to Pearl, made up the story about the grandma. Not so much as a mention of Perry or me in the liner notes. Fuckers. I was so upset I left their operation to do a two year stint in Europe with C&C Music Factory. The lesson here is don’t make decisions when you are angry.
So yeah, I gots to go pick some berries. Later.
Shine on you crazy diamonds.
