Jamaica Prison Song

Greetings music fans.

Did you see how fast that BCLC website was back up after I posted yesterday’s crafted, critical blog aimed at exposing the government’s manipulation of online wagering? I would say less than two hours. I don’t think it is delusional of me to take credit for the BCLC’s quick response. I am a force to be reckoned with. I am Larry King. I am Christopher Boyce. I am Bob Marley.

On another note, I like New Zealand to beat the two goal spread and tie an undermanned Slovakia tomorrow. If that works out, probably gonna bet the Portugal/Ivory Coast game a draw too. And I like the Lakers to win, but by less than five. One love.

Greetings music fans.

I will tell you a little something about wagering online with the government of British Columbia’s lottery corporation: they don’t want you to win. I mean, they really don’t want you to win. So much so, the site has been “down” for the entire World Cup so far.

You see, BCLC has this game called “Oddset”. Unlike picking spreads, you can pick a win, a loss OR a tie. A tie pays considerably more, but is very difficult to predict. In basketball, a tie constitutes a game within 5 points. Hockey, it’s a game that goes to a shoot out. Baseball, it’s a one run game. And in football it is a three point game. Simple enough, no? But in soccer, it is a game that is tied at the end of regulation – a very common occurence.

So here is the rub, while BCLC gets to profit the other three years and 11 months the World Cup isn’t on the board, they have opted to have their site “down” (first time I have ever seen it down in over five years) so as not to take a hit on people betting ties during world cup. This is bullshit. They are like an insurance company that’s takes your premiums, but then doesn’t want to pay out when a couple planes fly into your buildings. It’s just bad fucking sportsmanship  is what it is.

So I suggest dropping BCLC’s Corporate Communications Officer, Trevor Milller, a line at tmiller@bclc.com and tell him what bullshit you think this is. Or better yet, call him at 604.247.3013. He needs to know that we are fully aware of the scam they are pulling.

The government steals from us everyday: misdirected public funds, bullshit taxes, speeding tickets, transit hikes, auto insurance. Are we going to let them start stealing our luck too? Fuck no. I won’t revolt over any of that other stuff, but I’ll lead the fight when it comes to protecting my right to gamble. Get your pitchforks and torches ready; we’re about to play a whole new kind of beautiful game.

Shine on you crazy diamonds.

THE GREAT OUTDOORS  Live In Nanton, AB

Greetings music fans.

Truth is I am writing this yesterday – while the game is still on. Knew I was gonna get all messed up during the game and be too hungover tomorrow, so I thought I would get this out of the way.

And yes, I know it seems like I really don’t care sometimes, but it’s not about me; it’s about the music, dammit. So enjoy this new track from The Great Outdoors’ new release – a live album recorded in fabulous Nanton, Alberta. People in Nanton know how to drink. They can appreciate why I am writing this so early.

Greetings music fans.

This Lakers/Celtics series just ain’t making it for me. It should though. It’s been pretty good ball so far. I like watching Artest, and Rondo, and Wallace. Kobe is a rapist douche, yes, but he is exciting as hell to watch. But still, I just don’t seem to – how you say? – give a fuck.

I think the real problem is that this age old rivalry makes me feel as though I am back in the 80s and everything is great. The whole world was cocaine and Malibu rum. Good times. And while feeling like you have taken a trip to the past can sometimes be just lovely, problem is when each game of this Lakers/Celtics series ends I find I feel extra sad as soon as I turn the channel and am reminded that, in fact, my best days are behind me, the choices I’ve made have been often ill-advised, and the path I am on will likely never get me where I envisioned myself being. Yeah, these games have made me real sad for that reason. That plus the fact I’ve already lost close to three dimes betting the spread.

THE GREAT OUTDOORS – Chicken Soup

Greetings music fans.

Yesterday was the 100th post of Jon Raw’s Raw Blog. That’s longer than I lasted with two of my four wives. And while I am very proud of and excited by this accomplishment, I don’t think I will be throwing any kind of party down at East Van Eden Studios to celebrate. There’s no point; my allergies have me too congested (if you know what I mean.) Hopefully my sinuses will drain by the time we hit 200 posts.

Shine on you crazy diamonds.
