Greetings music fans.

So Korea really fucked me yesterday. And not in a hot, Sung Hi Lee kind of way; they did it to me in a shitty, financial way. All they had to do was beat Nigeria, just like every other team in their group had already done. It was a lock. And that’s exactly what I told why bookie over a Bailey’s and coffee as I called it in early this the universe repay those lazy bastards? Greece loses and they still make it to the next round. When will karma start paying attention to the spread?

 THE GREAT OUTDOORS  Nanton Live

Greetings music fans.

Got a few reviews in today from some of those in attendance for The Great Outdoors performance at this past weekend’s Car-free festival in Vancouver:

“These guys are what the Eagles would sound like if the Eagles weren’t totally fucking gay.”
-some fitness redneck on a recumbant bicycle

“The best band of the whole festival. And that bass player is so rad.”
-some hippie tart who was eyeing up Craig McCaul

“I would have never guessed such a hard-drinking bunch of degenerates would be playing at an event as important as Car-free Day. I knew they were a great band, now I also know they are great human beings.”
-some slam poetry homo in an ironic trucker cap

Me, I didn’t go to the gig. I can’t, in all good conscience, support Car-free Day. I am all about the car. Hell, I’d drive two at a time if I could. I don’t walk anywhere. I just drove two and half blocks to the gym. I don’t even like to watch people walk. (Unless it’s Michelle Van Der Water in that Palm Pre ad. I don’t even know what Palm Pre is, but I’ve bought four of them because of that ad. But I digress.) Plus I also didn’t go to the show because everytime I am around slam poetry people I end up getting an assault charge. I can’t help myself; they’re the mimes of the new millenium.

Greetings music fans.

Yeah, it’s phone-it-in Friday, but I got so caught up in the World Cup this week I forgot to reveal who the winner of Douche of the Season for Spring 2010 is. It’s none other than… dah, dah, dah – Monty Robinson. That’s right, your friendly neighbour police officer/brazen killer Corporal B.M. Robinson has been named the Raw Blog’s Douche of the Season for the third season in a row. Nice work, Monty. Perhaps one award for each life you have ended? (Rumour has it that Monty was sent to work at the airport  – a known dumping ground for the RCMP’s more useless members – after being involved in a questionable shooting death at his previous post. He’s been busy. But that’s the kind of work ethic that wins you awards as prestigous as this one.)

And while we are on the subject, why is it okay to spend money for an elablorate undercover operation (involving four officers) to gather evidence on Carol Burner for killing  four-year-old Alexa Middelaer, but virtually no effort is made to convict good ol’ Monty of little more than obstruction of justice in the death of Orion Hutchinson? A charge, I might add, to which the cowardly Robinson has pled ’not guilty’. He basically gets away with murder, yet the little sliver of responsibility he has to own up to is still too much. And that, music fans, is what it takes to become Douche of the Season.

Nice work, Monty. Come collect your prize. It’ll be waiting for you late tonight at the end of a yet-to-be-determined torch-lit, mob-filled alley.  I’ll get you the details as soon as we get the ambush event all organized.

Shine on you crazy diamonds.

THE GREAT OUTDOORS – Cold Cold Night
(from the album NANTON LIVE)

Greetings music fans.

The first early, early (like, ‘How the fuck did you get your hands on this?’ early) review of The Great Outdoors‘ new release, Nanton Live,  just got leaked to me. Let’s just say they use the description ”best live album of the past thirty years”, among other flattering turns of phrase. That’s what your Uncle Jon needs to hear. Honestly, I got a little greedy yesterday after my success with the World Cup draws on Tuesday. I let it all ride. (Well, I let what was left ride after a few expenses I incurred Tuesday evening. I won’t get into details, but let’s just say that the Brazilian twins I rolled to Sizzler with that night can really pack away the lobster tails. Still totally worth it though.) Anyway, seems I got wiped out yesterday with all those teams doing the unthinkable in soccer: winning or losing. So it might be a bit of a tight summer if I don’t move some units around here at DDG. Reviews like this one should help. Keep ‘em coming, media tastemakes. I promised Consuela and Carla I’d take them to The Keg’s Crab-fest next month.

KINGSWAY – Swept Away (live @ EVES)

Greetings music fans.

Ten to one. That is what betting on those two World Cup draws yesterday paid out. Hell, even North Korea beat the spread – against Brazil. The North Koreans looked great actually. Kim Jong must let those players dine on only the healthiest of citizens.

Let’s go again. Forget about bending it like Beckham. Let’s roll it (over) like Raw. There are three games that could all be ties today, but the one I am really feeling is the long shot: Spain versus Switzerland. I am covering all three though. Win one, win your money back and little more. Win two and you are buying a few rounds tonight. Hit all three and it’s nothing but Sizzler and hookers ’til Friday.

Shine on you crazy diamonds.
