In 2008 The Great Outdoors recorded, mixed and mastered a new EP for each season. A new record every three months, with the series debut being released on the first day of spring. The first single, Spring Flower, landed on year-end shortlists all over the place. Besides being a brilliant collection of songs, this creative undertaking helped mold the modern incarnation of what was soon being called “…the best folk-rock band in the nation.” (24 Hours)

The last recordingCounterrevolutionaries would do before the band went on permanent(?) hiatus. A hard-hitting collection of raw garage goodness. They can’t let it all end this way, can they? “Canadian post-punk lineage that reverberates perfectly…” (Spill)

Kingsway’s DDG debut (after two previous releases on the ultra-cool transsiberian music co.) was recorded over a hot and sweaty summer weekend at East Van Eden Studios. RC’s hooky wordplay gels and grooves perfectly with Counterrevolutionaries’ soulful attack to culminate in one of the more special albums ever made in the history of the world.   “Kingsway’s RC Joseph might just be the best lyricist in Canada.” (24 Hours)

Portage
Mooncussers

DDG-005

Mooncussers sophomore release, Portage is a twangy psycho surf excursion to the dimension in which Will Oldham shares a flat with Frank Zappa. Seriously, this album is a fucking trip, man. Be careful. “Ambient space rock with acoustic alternative country, kind of like what one might expect if Spiritualized teamed up with Wilco… ” (Mote)

One of the greatest Canadian rock and roll albums ever courtesy of one of Canada’s finest underground acts ever. Counterrevolutionaries are in their prime here. Think of a folk-infused Pearl Jam fronted by Johnny Cash with a splash of Sonic Youth for extra cred. Oh yeah, and some trumpet from Ida Nilsen. “The best band you’ve never heard of…” (24 Hours)

Sorry You Can’t Come Down
The Mad Dash
DDG-002

Before they were called Counterrevolutionaries they were known as The Mad Dash. Then an old game show with whom they shared the moniker forced them to change their name. A hundred years from now, ain’t nobody gonna be talking about that game show. “I don’t care what you call it, it all sounds like gold…” (Profile)

The one that started it all. “Adam Nation is a man armed with little more than a tape recorder and an uncanny ability to craft folk genius in the true imagist tradition…” (Wooden Bag Times)
