Greetings music fans.

Yesterday was the twenty year anniversary of the tragic and untimely death of Loyola Marymount basketball star Hank Gathers. And it seems like just yesterday I was betting on him and his Lions to beat the spread against Gonzaga. That’s when college basketball really had some soul. Remember how after Hank died how his best buddy Bo Kimble would shoot his first free throw of each game with his left hand in honor of his fallen teammate.  And he made them all too. Magic stuff. That even got an old prick like me a little misty.

RIP, Hank. And thanks. Your skills back in the day helped me finance my Pontiac Fiero.

So it looks like your Uncle Jon is back on track with that Vanderbilt pick last night. Let’s roll it over with today’s tasty morsel: Notre Dame over Connecticut at home. It’s a “pick ‘em”, so you just need to guess the winner. And Notre Dame doesn’t lose at home. So even though I am a lapsed Catholic,  I am still gonna let last night’s gravy ride on those pastie, little leprechauns. You should do the same.

And while you ponder over all the Guiness you are going to buy with your winnings, listen to today’s track: ‘Jamieson French Layer’ from the Mooncussers’ 2007 release Portage.

Slán.

Shine on you crazy diamonds.
