Jon Raw’s Scouting Report: KINGSWAY

Jon Raw’s Scouting Report: KINGSWAY

Overview

KINGSWAY is a small community of musicians led by West Coast singer/songwriter RC Joseph.

After four albums of critically acclaimed music, Joseph is more confident than ever that one of his better-looking and more talented counterparts will someday cover one of his songs and place it on their major label release. Perhaps around track 6 or 7. Though the song itself won’t do too well, the album will reach the top 10 on Billboard and Joseph will use his residuals to buy a kidney-shaped pool and a fancy gas barbeque. Such are the dreams of the true artist.

“A series of melancholy lo-fi folk songs that conjure up images of a young Neil Young or perhaps the male equivalent of Chan Marshall. RC Joseph bares his soul with little more than his voice, his guitar and a heart full of woe.” – ChartAttack

“The latest from Vancouver’s RC Joseph casts a wondering eye at the night sky, scene of cosmic real-estate sales, alien visitations and other dreams of relief from this weary world. The shuffling songs are deliberately plain and low-tech, with lots of head-down guitar strumming and occasional trumpet asides. Joseph’s damaged vocals emphasize the remoteness of his subjects, and also their inescapability, as the star-chart traces of all-too-human relationships.”Globe and Mail

“With a debut that was perhaps one of the best in recent Canadian indie history, it seems unlikely that Kingsway could continue to get better with each release, but somehow they do. Brand New Golden Oldies is Kingsway’s finest work yet… RC Joseph might just be the best lyricist in Canada.” - 24 Hours
